In the Footsteps of Foord, a day of celebration
Sunday 30 September
Miles and miles of water races run across the moors which provided water to settlements from the mid 19th Century with some still used until the 1960s. They were the brainchild of Joseph Foord. Join us to celebrate this local man and this extraordinary feat of engineering which used gravity as its linchpin. Hear about Foord's work from experts including demonstrations of a theodolite as Foord would have used to survey and plan the watercourses. See and read the diary of George Wright whose job was to keep the watercourses running.
