Historic Boat Visits Whitby in August.

  • 2012-08-20 10:00:00

Between 18 to 26 August, the 110 year old sailing drifter Reaper, flagship of the Scottish Fisheries Museum in Anstruther, Fife, will be visiting Whitby where she will be open free of charge for visits by members of the public. Since being acquired by the Museum she has been fully restored to her 1902 sailing rig, and the former fish hold has been set up as a floating museum to display the old fishing gear, clothing and equipment that were in common use in her heyday. She is one of the forty core vessels in the UK's National Historic Fleet, and unlike other core vessels such as HMS Victory or Cutty Sark, Reaper remains fully seaworthy.Joan Paton of the Museum's Boats Club said : "It is a special pleasure to once again bring reaper down to Whitby where we have so many friends and Boats Club members. We shall welcome everyone aboard, and look forward to supporting Whitby and its Folk Festival."
