'LIGHT AND SHADE' - Exhibition of Paintings by Robert Brindley RSMA at Turnstone Gallery, Sandsend, Whitby
Turnstone Gallery at Sandsend welcomes the opportunity to celebrate the work of Whitby artist Robert Brindley RSMA. Our autumn show 'Light and Shade' gives an insight into how Robert responds to the challenge of capturing light and atmosphere.
Robert's work is impressionistic and reveals his immediate reaction to the subject, as he strives to reflect the quality and variation in the light. His passion for the sea and his interpretation of coastal scenery, beaches and harbour scenes led to his election of membership to the Royal Society of Marine Artists in 1993.
The Society was founded in 1939 and is widely recognised for being the focal point for much of Britain's finest marine art, dedicated to celebrating the sea in all its aspects. Its members hold an annual exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London every October and Robert is the current Archivist for the Society.
Robert moved to the Yorkshire Coast and turned professional in the early 1990's; he has since established his studio in Sleights and continues to hold evening classes, weekend workshops and demonstrations for Art Societies countrywide. Robert is a renowned teacher, he has published several books and his DVDs remind us of his expertise as a teacher and guide.
The exhibition includes paintings of the North East Coast, and other locations in England, together with some of his favourite locations abroad. Although primarily a landscape artist, Robert occasionally paints interiors and figurative subjects.
The exhibition runs from 21st September until 3rd November and the gallery is open daily except Wednesdays from 11.00am to 5.00pm. For further details, look at our website www.turnstonegallery.net or call us on 01947 893289. Admission is free.
