Annie (PG)

  • 2015-01-23 19:30:00

Life in modern day New York is tough, but not too tough for happy-go-lucky foster kid Annie – she takes the mean modern streets in her stride with seeming ease. Living with a promise that her birth parents would return for her someday, Annie lives a hard knock life with her cranky, unreasonable (and downright mean) foster mum, Miss Hannigan.

But Annie's world is soon to be turned upside down when a hard-faced business man and mayoral candidate, Will Stacks and his entourage of campaign managers come into her life. In a bid to get a winning streak for the mayoral campaign, Stacks' VP, Grace and conniving campaign manager, Guy, decide on a poorly disguised tactical move that will favour the campaign.

As a rich, business tycoon, Stacks believes he has taken Annie under his protective wing and is something of a guardian angel to her. But could this effect the cheery sun-will-come-out-tomorrow disposition Annie has on Stacks' life mean things are actually the other way around?

Director Will Gluck (Easy A, Friends with Benefits) revamps the story of this beloved Broadway musical to a new audience. Packed with pop culture references, this modern-day retelling stars acclaimed actress Quvenzhané Wallis as Annie, with Jamie Foxx (The Amazing Spider-Man 2, A Million Ways to Die in the West) taking the role of business tycoon, Will Stacks and Cameron Diaz as the mean-spirited foster mum, Miss Hannigan.

With an all-star cast, laugh-out-loud moments and plenty of hat-tips to past versions of the musical, this contemporary retelling of an old classic is one the whole family will enjoy!
