Louis Zamperini (Jack O'Connell) was the poor kid that struck gold when he enjoyed success as a record-breaking Olympic long distance runner. His career in sport was cut short when he was called for duty to fight in World War II.
After surviving a plane crash, Zamperini and two comrades had to battle for their lives at sea, fighting off shark attacks and Japanese bombers, whilst having to survive on the most basic of provisions. After 47 days adrift, they finally reached the Marshall Islands, one man down (Francis McNamara succumbed to the conditions and perished at sea after 33 days).
The two surviving men were then captured by the Japanese Navy, ending up prisoners of war in horrific conditions. Unbroken is adapted from the best-selling book of the same name, which was published in 2010, and is an incredible story of a true survivor.
