As a child, Philippe Petit was fascinated by a number of circus troupes and tricks including magic and juggling. From these grew his passion for the incredible skill required for that most daring of tricks: tightrope walking.
As he grew older, his abilities became greater and eventually, he conjured up a big idea. The Twin Towers of the World Trade Centre were in construction and he wondered whether or not it would be possible to walk a tightrope between the two…
Petit’s courageous and mind-boggling walk was one of the most talked-about events of 1974 and has since been made into an Academy Award-winning documentary, Man on Wire (2008). Now, this spectacular biopic tells the story in all its glory, directed by Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump, Cast Away). Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Petit, The Walk is truly a wonder to behold.
