Whitby Wassail - an annual show for Christmas now in its 15th year.
A trip in songs, traditional music, stories and dance through the seasons of the year to the onset of Winter, with all its 'firey' traditions, through the Yule season and New Year.
Traditional and contemporary Folk Songs and Ancient Carols celebrating the turning of the seasons.
Long Sword Dancing is traditional in this region at this time of the year and we feature that too. A true compendium of Christmas!
Those taking part this year will include several well known performers. Folk Musician and writer Richard Grainger has written and compiled the show. Joining him are Sheffield's Paul & Liz Davenport, Fiddle-Singer Rebekah Findlay, Concertina player and singerSteve Turner , folk duo John and Maureen Morgan and The Wassailers -a group of local singers and performers.
A contingent from the Festival On The Moor Young Roots team and Historical character performers 'People From The Past' will also perform.
A real Yorkshire celebration of Christmas! Oh and its lots of fun too... !!!
The Whitby WASSAIL takes place on Dec 13th and gets underway at 7.30pm.
