Ellis Lacey dreams of something bigger than the life she knows in Ireland, and sets off to America for a fresh start, leaving her mother and sister behind her.
She soon overcomes the crippling homesickness and settles into the thrilling environment of 1950s Brooklyn. At a local dance, she meets Tony, an Italian boy who instantly falls in love with her. The two hit it off and become an item, but Ellis’ world comes crashing down when she learns of a death in the family.
Returning to Ireland, she reacquaints herself with the life she once knew, and her eye falls on a boy from home: Jim. Now, torn between two men and two totally different worlds, where will Ellis’ future take her?
This charming romantic drama about a young girl with an impossible choice comes courtesy of director John Crowley (Intermission). Academy Award-nominated Saoirse Ronan (The Grand Budapest Hotel) stars as Ellis, alongside Domhnall Gleeson (Ex Machina) as Jim and Emory Cohen (The Gambler) as Tony.
