America in the 1970s was a violent time, with the Italian Mafia responsible for a huge crime wave that shook sections of the community to the very core. Whitey Bulger was the brother of a state senator as well as the most infamous violent criminal to come out of South Boston.
He was so intertwined in the gangster network, that the FBI realised they could use his status to their advantage and signed him up as an informant, whilst Bulger got to simultaneously protect his own turf.
This is the true story of one of America’s most cruel and calculating mobsters.
Johnny Depp stars in what could be a career-defining role as Bulger, almost unrecognisable in appearance from his usual self. Depp is supported from an A-List cast which includes Kevin Bacon, Benedict Cumberbatch, Dakota Johnson and Sienna Miller.
Scott Cooper, the man responsible for Crazy Heart (2009) and Out of the Furnace (2013) directs what is set to be the next great crime drama.
