Joy Mangano is smart. Really smart. Having left High School as valedictorian, and studied at a prestigious college, she has the ideas and the know-how to create something brilliant.

However, her family life is difficult, and Joy has to negotiate her parents’ divorce as well as the new man in her life.

Things go from bad to worse when Joy ends up raising her three kids alone, and struggles to persuade anyone to take her seriously as a businesswoman.

Enter the Home Shopping Network, whose executive is willing to give Joy a chance to showcase her new invention, the Miracle Mop.

It isn’t long before Joy’s new venture really starts to take off, but success comes at its own price, and she has yet more trials and tribulations to contend with as she transforms from a struggling single mother into the matriarch and business mogul she knew she would always become.

This remarkable story is based on the life of Joy Mangano and the business she built single-handedly. It is directed by David O. Russell, whose previous collaborations with Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper earned him two of his Academy Award nominations for Best Director.

Starring Jennifer Lawrence (Serena), Bradley Cooper (American Sniper), and Robert De Niro (The Intern), Joy tells the tale of the woman who proved everyone wrong by becoming a hugely successful entrepreneur.
