Trumbo (15)

  • 2016-03-11 19:30:00

Dalton Trumbo has earned his fortunes as a screenwriter in 1940s Hollywood, and lives the life of luxury with his wife and daughter. However, while the Cold War is in its infancy and America is gripped in a constant state of political tension, Trumbo’s left-wing beliefs land him in hot water with the U.S. government.

A growing number of people become suspicious of Hollywood’s left-wing population, and believe Communist propaganda is being planted into movies. A committee is formed and Trumbo along with nine other suspects are brought to trial. When they all refuse to testify, they are sent to prison. After serving his time, Trumbo finds himself isolated. However, a small contingency of friends and colleagues have stayed to him, and vow to help him get back on his feet. With the weight of the government against him, Trumbo has to find the courage to fight his battles armed with the most powerful tool he possesses: his pen. This powerful tale is based on the true story of Dalton Trumbo, whose foul mistreatment by the American government left shockwaves in society. It is directed by Jay Roach, whose former credentials include Meet the Parents (2000) and The Campaign (2012).Breaking Bad leading man Bryan Cranston stars as Dalton Trumbo, along with a supporting cast which includes Elle Fanning (Maleficent), Diane Lane (Man of Steel), John Goodman (The Monuments Men), and Helen Mirren (Woman in Gold).
