Youth (15)

  • 2016-03-14 19:30:00

Fred Ballinger is a retired composer and conductor, seeking a quiet retreat in the Alps with his daughter and PA, Lena, and his best friend, Mick.

Still clinging to his former glory as a successful film director, Mick has accompanied Fred in order to finish his script at long last.

Lena’s got problems of her own. Having found out that her husband is leaving her for a popstar, she suddenly feels the need for some peace and quiet, only to find her repressed resentment of her father coming to the fore.

When an emissary from the Queen comes to the hotel looking for Fred, he is offered the chance to conduct once again at a most prestigious event, and his overwhelming love of music starts to tug at his heartstrings once again.

As Fred and Mick try to figure out exactly when it was that they became ‘old’, they start to re-evaluate their lives and the choices they have made along the way.
At such a late stage in their lives, can the two men learn what it is to feel young again?

This emotive and heart-warming drama comes courtesy of Italian director Paolo Sorrentino, whose 2013 film The Great Beauty won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Starring Michael Caine (Kingsman: The Secret Service), Harvey Keitel (The Grand Budapest Hotel), Rachel Weisz (The Lobster), and Jane Fonda (The Butler), Youth is a touching look at life and love, and never giving up on the things that truly matter.
