Bridlington Sailing Coble Festival - July 2025

  • 2025-07-20 10:00:00

The 2025 Sailing Coble Festival will take place at Bridlington over the weekend of 19-20 July. Based around the harbour the event will host some 18 traditionally rigged sailing craft, mainly cobles, some over 70 years old and built in Northumberland. This year will also see the ex Tynemouth motor/sailing lifeboat Henry Frederick Swan, built in 1917, make a return visit. She will make passage down the coast from the Tyne and put in overnight at Whitby before continuing down to Bridlington.

Live music on stage at the Clouigh Hole car park throughout the weekend will feature; the Headlanders, the Ramshackle Shantymen, Black Dog Folk, the Hornsea Shanty Lasses, along with local favourite Jim Eldon (the Brid Fiddler) and his wife Lynette. The Flamborough Junior Longsword Dance team will give a special performance at the stage area on Sunday 20th.

Various stands and stalls will be situated in the VMF Exhibition Hall on the harbourside and will include the trade stand of Teal & Mackrill, the Teamac brand marine paint specialists. Refreshments will be available with seating around the stage to take in the full atmosphere.

Sailing is scheduled for both days of the Festival, subject to weather conditions, but when not at sea the cobles will moor alongside Harbour Road, near to the Harbour Heritage Museum. Bridlington is THE sailing coble capital of Great Britain, there is nowhere other than the port to see such a large gathering of traditional cobles under sail. This event is not one to be missed.
